Murray “Ray” Cutler, W9EHQ

This the main operating position for W9EHQ.

As you can probably tell, I am a fan of the old Kenwood “hybrid” transceivers. Center top is a TS-520s, below it is a TS-530sp, to its right is a TS-830s. The receiver to the left of the TS-530sp is a Kenwood R-2000. For 2 Meters, I have two Kenwood TR-7730s and an ICOM IC-230. For 70cm I use a Kenwood TM-411a and two RCA series 700 converted commercial transceivers. The amplifiers are a Heath SB-220 that I built in 1977, as well as the Heath antenna tuner below it. Between my 30-foot tower and house roof, I have 13 antennas, including a Mosley CL-33 tri-bander, homebrew dipoles for 40, 75 Meters and the WARC bands, and various beams and ground planes for VHF and UHF. The rotatable antennas on the tower are turned by a Ham-4 rotor. Two WARC dipoles are switched through a homebrew coaxial switch box for different direction patterns. The Autek QF-1A audio filter (on top of the TS-520s) goes through a switching matrix that allows me to use it with any of the HF transceivers or the R-2000, with just the f lip of a switch. The map on the wall has a pin with a little flag on it for each DXCC country worked (over 200). The equipment pictured is only about 1/4 of the total equipment in my basement playroom.
