Out Of Print
If you have never operated HF Mobile, there is a whole new world
waiting for you. Many are hindered by the misconception that it
is only necessary to stop by the store, buy a rig, plug it in and
start operating. Nothing is further from the truth!
Note from the author:
Rather than going through all the pain and frustration of trying
to reinvent the wheel, there is a good chance this manual will help
you short-circuit a lot of sneaky problems. Or, something you read
may strike the flint to develop and entirely new mousetrap.
Much feedback has been received from Radio Amateurs worldwide since
"40+5 Years of HF Mobileering" went to press in early
1993. Lots of excellent ideas and suggestions were obtained. When
40+5 was out of stock, it was suggested to redo the manuscript to
update and include all the latest material. Much of the '50s and
'60s HF Mobileering history and nostalgia has been omitted.
Keep in mind that this is a compendium, so don't worry about discontinuity
and repetitions where bits of information seem to overlap.
We had a longtime Ham friend who was publisher of an international
scuba diving monthly magazine. The instant he saw one of my first
editions, he was all over me for not letting him do the editing.
It was explained that as an old Minnesota Herring Choker, I wrote
exactly as I talk and no amount of editing could rectify that. Now
if I could only wave my arms while writing we'd have it made.
No claim is made that everything you read in this manual is etched
in stone but try to roll with it anyway. Have arrived at the age
where sometimes I might even listen to reason! Our longtime personal
friend, Russ Farnsworth, (of the famous Farnsworth Code Method),
would often remind us fellow Hams with these words of wisdom:
"Many people like to display knowledge without understanding."
and another one "It is ease to limit your knowledge to
what someone has written or said."
Thanks are expressed to scores of contributors, many who are not
identified by calls.
