WorldRadio Writers Guidelines for Articles
Were glad you want to contribute to the content of WorldRadio.
We have assembled a few simple, but important, guidelines for you to use
when preparing your article. Your cooperation will make editing and typesetting
much more uniform.
Articles
- Try to keep article length to no more than five pages, or 1,200 words.
The shorter the article, the sooner were able to use it, especially
when photos are included. We sometimes accept longer articles.
- We can accept articles and pictures by e-mail: editor@wr6wr.com.
Submit typed contributions on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, double spaced.
Material may also be sent on 3 1/2" diskette or CD ROM; be sure
to note proper file name and whether disk is Mac or ASCII. The mailing
address for articles is Nancy Kott, WZ8C P.O. Box 807
Hadley, MI 48440.
- Use caps and lower case style; please avoid sending entire text in
caps.
- Always use call signs and full names (e.g. Armond Noble, N6WR).
- Dates should be written day, month, year (10 January 2003, not January
10, 2003)
- Use amateur instead of ham as much as possible,
and capitalize Amateur Radio.
- Here are some examples: watt =W meter = M kilohertz = kHz megahertz
= MHz kilowatt = kW p.m. (not pm or PM) 0100 UTC or 0l00Z
- If you are using a word processing program, bear in mind we use Microsoft
Word 2000. If youre sending a disk, please make sure its
in Word format, a plain text, or RTF file.
Photos
- We prefer color prints, but we can use black and white, too.
- Prints are preferred over negatives or slides. We have also used some
pictures sent to us by e-mail. They dont turn out as well, but
we should be able to handle .jpeg format. Photos sent by e-mail need
to be saved as a .jpg file, scanned at 200 dpi and as large as you can
make them. If you dont have scanning capabilities, send the photo,
we will scan it and return it, unharmed.
- Include notation of any captions for the photos, but please dont
write on the backs of photos; smeared ink can ruin other pictures.
Payment
Upon publication, we pay $.50 per inch for each article over 15 inches
that is not a reprint. As WorldRadio is entirely reader-written,
payment is designed to cover costs of preparing and submitting more detailed
manuscripts. There is no pay for shorter articles, although free copies
of WorldRadio will be sent upon request.
We thank you for your enthusiasm and continued interest in WorldRadio.Nancy
